If you are coming on vacation or on a business trip to Albufeira without your own vehicle you will necessarily need to use the local transportations to move around and discover part of the surroundings.
Below we describe the existing possibilities to travel within the Algarve in a practical, safe and affordable way during your stay in Albufeira
Taxis
Taxis in Portugal are relatively cheap and are quick and safe. In fact it comes out cheaper for 3 or 4 persons than the bus in many cases. Taxi cabs are easily recognizable for their colors are either light beige or black with a green top.
The local Taxi company (Taxis Albufeira) has more than 100 cabs and over 20 ranks at various central points across Albufeira area. It is possible to order a Taxi by telephone from any hotel and most public places. Be aware that during high season long queues are commons at the most popular places in Albufeira like in the Old town and around the Strip / Oura area, mostly at night.
Prices:
- Minimum fare is 3,25€ from up to a 3km distance.
- Trips further than 3 km are charged 0,90 € /km and added a 20% increase after 9pm or on week-ends and holidays.
- Calling a taxi by phone will add 0,80 € to the total fare./li>
- Luggage are an extra 1,60 €.
- Animals are accepted if in cage or properly held and will be charged as an extra luggage.
- If you pretend a two way trip you shall have to tell the driver when entering the taxi.

Private driver service
There are now a few online platforms that operate in the Algarve offering private taxi like Uber, Cabify and Bolt. Their cars must have a sign with "TVDE" on the window to prove the driver has the propper certificate. Naturally, they are in larger number during high season and fewer in Winter.

Also existing in Albufeira is a tourist train (called "Turistrem") circling the town. It only has four stops but their locations make it a practical and pleasant way of going around the city.
A full round lasts ± 40 minutes
Normal schedule: from 9am to 11pm – Train every 20 min.
Summer Time – June, July, August, September: from 9am to 1am – Train every 20 min.
20th of August and New Year's Eve: from 9am to 4am – train every 20 min.
