I cannot think of anything unique and new anyone might be doing here this New Year, except staying indoors!

The programme for this year's celebrations is posted elsewhere.

Many hotels will be doing "gala" evenings with dinner and dancing. We are going to a restaurant out of town for a seven course dinner.

Personally, I think being in Albufeira for New Years Eve is pretty unique in itself !  The party is on the Beach with the Bands and entertainment then back into the square to soak up the atmosphere !  When I go it's usually into the square for a few pre dinner drinks then off to a restaurant over looking the Beach until midnight, watch the fireworks then walk into the square to let the festivities begin !!   Party

We have been twice at New Year and been to El Rancho, Fishermans Beach both times.  We like the food there and it is in a prime spot for the festivities.  I think it was around 60euros for a three course (poss 4 course) meal, bottle of white fizz, party poppers etc and your table for the night.

They are on facebook so you can book through there though it wasn't full the last time we went.  The entertainment looks better this year so may be best to book.

My son and his wife went to Flavours restaurant for New Years eve Big mistake 75 Euros per person for bland food served as quickly as they could and didn't include 1 drink, the cheapest bottle of wine was 18 Euros and then a quick step up to 34 Euros for plonk that normally is at least half the price, AT 11.45 the staff went outside and you would have thought they could have offered 1 glass of the cheapest bubbly. Lesson learned stay away from the front line restaurants and especially Flavours at Fisherman's Beach.

Jompra was brilliant. €70 for six delicious courses ( no couvert this year - not needed to be honest ) all drinks including decent wine and bubbly at midnight. Good crowd in looking to enjoy themselves, DJ was a bit clueless, but a good time was had by all and no fighting through crowds of kids with their jeans halfway down their ar**s and their hats on the wrong way round to watch someone you wouldn't cross the road to see on any other occasion...

Came to Oura rather than Quarteira and was disappointed. Too many locals with a lot more than champagne in their bags who just wandered around not helping to liven anywhere up. Fine to grab a bottle of bubbly for midnight but this lot was like a mini booze shop. A few tourists in some of the places we tried but the hike to the beach should have been attempted for quite a long firework display. We were near the bullring from where fireworks were lit last year and it was mentioned on some flyer but alas no joy but not a bad view of beach fireworks in distance. I think I preferred quarteira as there was a much greater age range of many nationalities without it being a crush. Who knows?!< id="adlesse_unifier_magic_element_id" style="display: none;">

Jompra sounds the ticket, the problem is not getting there but getting home on New Years night would?

Not at all Gerry, we waited about ten minutes for a cab at about one forty five, no double fare either. As Orada-Man will also testify...
