Topic: Mobile DATA sims & dongles Posted: 02/April/2017 at 12:50 |
Now, here's a silly question...
I want to use my laptop via a mobile dongle/sim - just for emails & occasional surfs. I tried the MEO sim which didn't work, and I know that Vodafone do a package but it seems expensive to say the least, and coverage a bit spotty. So, can anyone suggest any alternatives? Thanks

Vodafone dongles aren't expensive, and at a €/hour would seem to tick the boxes.

I have vodafone dongle that costs 21.99 a month and get over 20mb download speed using with a hotspot. It is not on contract just month by month. Also have MEO fixed to the apartment and it is crap supposed to be up to 24md download but never get more than 10 that is a contract so can`t escape for another year. Vodafone is who I would always go with.

I'm using a NOS pay as you go - 1 euro per day for unlimited data usage (no contract), get 10-20mbit download speeds.

Thank you everyone. I'll look out for NOS Stuart. My comment about Vodaphone included the cost of the dongle as well, since (wait for this one) you can't use a spare UK dongle and fit the Vodafone pt. sim. Thanks anyway.

You can, as long as the "dongle" is unlocked from a network provider.

Stuart can get a hotspot for these to use a few devices? can they be used in an unlocked UK dongle? could be handy for when friends visit

The Worten shop sells portable wifi hotspots for all three networks, A pay as you go one costs around 40 Euros.
I have also sent you a private message.

I brought mine from Worten shop, cost about 60 euro including the dongle and 14 days of data
If you have an unlocked device, this this would be fine for you... https://www.worten.pt/smartphones-e-comunicacoes/internet-movel/hotspots/cartao-nos-kanguru-livre-pg-2016-5883533

I have a 3 Huawei mobile mifi device that I change the sim on to a Orange Spanish one and it works whilst I'm in Spain. Maybe look at getting one of these with a Portugese sim.
