Just returned last Friday (yesterday)Had already booked for next June or this would have been my last visit. The Reason ? maybe not the best reason for most, but as a smoker I use my two visits per year to stack up on tobacco. When we first visited Albufeira in 2007, 50gm of tobacco cost around 3.80 euro. Just a few years later and it now costs 13.50 euro per 50gm. Basically money saved on my yearly baccy bill paid for the second holiday. I can now buy it (yes bootleg)in any pub for less than you have to pay in Portugal (It has gone up in Portugal by 2.5 euro per 50gm in last 12 months alone) I understand the Country needs the taxes but overpricing compared to other tourist countries could in the long run have a detrimental effect by cutting the number of visitors. Maybe I need to pack in smoking !!!! or start visiting Greece etc

Well in 2 years time, or whenever when we Brexit, you're allowance will drop down to normal duty free quantities of 250g of tobacco & 200 cigarettes and it will not make any difference what ever Country you go to. |

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

You may well be correct Dicey, on the other hand we have not left the EU yet, and what politicians are saying at the minute has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Why not pack the fags or ciggies in, then you could afford your second visit and as for buying blag ciggies in pubs you are only putting your health at risk cos you have idea what you are smoking, get real and enjoy your holidays on the Algarve |

I would be careful of the cheap stuff in pubs,a lot of it is snyde,& far more harmful than normal tobacco.

Due to be flying over tomorrow for the weekend, but with a combination of the weather and a middle ear infection, looks like it won't happen

Oh dear! Snowed or flooded in by the looks of the UK forecasts this morning. Poor you. Nice and sunny here but next week is going to be cold (relatively speaking) here.

Bit chilly here in the smokey toon. There was a half hearted attempt at snow which came to little. Now clear, bright and nippy.
I may head over in March when the weather should be ideal for me - anything over 10°c will be welcome. |
