Good photos. Perhaps some of the government's 10 million will find its way down there but the whole Falesia area is very exposed to the elements, the cliffs are soft and keeping nature at bay is going to be very difficult and expensive.

Just for tourists, but vital industry.

Praia Da Oura around 1115am today. A few more later. There is definitely a lot less sand there now.

yes the black sand has been uncovered especially near the cliff edge. I estimate at least a metre of sand has gone, possibly more.

This shows it better. These rocks are normally covered.

That is not water coming from the damaged and leaking pipe by those rocks.

This shows how much sand has gone, the little beach just east of Praia da Oura

I have been following the other threads and photos posted, but didn't realise how serious the situation was, thanks Tom for these photos, it looks like a massive situation to address.Costly and time consuming.

Nature will do its best to put the sand back but that does take months rather than weeks. There is I think nothing in short term to be done at Praia da Oura. As we have read, money is being spent to deal with the beaches west of town, but that's also to prevent coastal erosion and not just to give tourists somewhere to sit.

Maybe next year's job if the sand doesn't come back by itself.

What a difference a week makes. Sheraton have replaced their lost sand but as yet they haven't had the large sandbags replaced.

And where did they get all this sand?
Well they bulldozed it up from the adjacent part of the beach. Not sure that this is entirely kosher as they've taken a good 2ft from there, as you can see by the new step at the back of the beach. That clump of bamboo was sitting on the beach last week now it's 2ft above it.
Fine for their rich punters but not too clever for us regular folk because it means that the high tide now goes right to the back of the beach so there's nowhere to sit for at least 2 hours either side of it.

Still, it was cracking down there today & hopefully the sand will be naturally restored to it's normal levels soon.

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.
