A very busy beach for this time of the year. Much discussion in the local ale houses that this is the busiest May for quite some time. Great to see. Also, one of the big holiday companies (I'll not say which one as an employee told me) sold roughly 30.000 holidays in the Algarve last year, this year it's 94.000 and that's only one of the companies. Looks like a good season ahead.

Agree Bob, two weeks ago was by far the busiest we've seen in May for a long time, shame the weather was hit and miss.
I guess the increased numbers are because so many previously available destinations are pretty much no go with the ever changing 'political' state of the world, so folk are faced with a shorter list to choose from. |

Friends of mine came back to the UK last Thursday after 8 days in Albufeira and the second thing they mentioned was that it was much busier than they had experienced in the past (the first thing was the rain and changeable weather!). Their discussions in various watering holes suggested a lot of folk were in Albufeira for the first time, several of whom would have normally gone to Turkey. Anecdotal I know but should be good for business.

Beautiful pictures of the beach again. Just to remind us all what we are missing. Don't know if we can make it there this year. Dog sitting again in Lagos September. Hope to visit Albufeira while we are there.

Certainly not. Pictures were taken from the cliff above the marina or the viewing platform where the cats are.

Lovely, thanks. My daughter and I were on Peneco beach that afternoon and are probably in that first picture I can't quite spot us though, unless we're the two heads bobbing about in the sea. (Funnily enough Cubsur took a picture of that beach when we were on it on our last trip there in 2013! - our umbrella is clearly visible in that one.)

Someone is soon going have to do some thinking about the loss of sand along the section of the beach between the pier and the Inatel hotel. At yesterday afternoon's high tide the water almost reached the base of the cliff. A little further along, there is a pronounced 'cliff' in the sand. It's ok further along. |
