Very hot today, 36/37 expected, slightly less for the weekend and lower, more sensible, 31's and 32's next week.
No sign of any rain!

Well, I've found 90% of the time it's better than IPMA forecast. Arrived yesterday and that was certainly the case, 33 degree's at 4.30 in the afternoon.
Same today, currently 31, both of those figures being higher than the IPMA forecast.
Some high cloud, but all very pleasent.
What's intersting is the variance in wind or breeze. Both days we have 30 minutes of nothing, dead still, 30 mins or thereabouts of light breeze then 30 mins of very breezy, in any random sequence. It is most noticable and quite unusual, but still very palatable.

We got to 33 here yesterday afternoon.
Today? Another day in paradise!

Light breeze, not a cloud to be seen, sun beating down, 28 degree’s already, 36 at least expected later (that's what IPMA say so expect more), gorgeous. 39 forecast for tomorrow!

But. Just returned from hardware shop where they said local radio is warning about next Tuesday/Wednesday being an absolute scorcher and temperatures could reach 50!!! I thought they were winding me up but they assure me that repeated warnings of severe temperatures for next week were being given. We’ll see but I would imagine, if it happens, everywhere will just come to a standstill, you surely couldn’t be out and about in that sort of temperature.

Our neighbour has just advised same, saying it was on TV news yesterday evening, the breeze will disappear totally over next few days and extreme temperatures are probable next week, be vigilant particularly with naked flames!

I would caution that IPMA aren't currently forecasting or reporting that, they just have high 30's forecast, doubt I'll need my anorak either way!

UPDATE at 2.45pm.
We are at 36 already and still rising, breeze has gone, it's freeking hot! Too hot. You can't walk on patio barefoot, it burns your feet! We love the sun and heat but this is more than enough! The temptation to drink beer has to be resisted, it could be a long day (and night!).

I watched the weather forecast that DICEY has posted and red warnings (danger to life) have been issued for large parts of Europe, something that is quite rare.

Forecasts of temperatures into the mid 40's and significantly higher are widespread and it's tinder dry.

Take care out there people. 😎

Cheers Col, so they weren't winding me up.
4.20pm here and now at 38 degree's with not a drop of breeze, there's only two places to be, in the pool or in the a/c... with no breeze at all there is no other option. It's damn hot. (Note, I'm not complaining, just reporting!)

Yes Col, Carol was certainly displaying her big temperatures this morning. Wink
Glad we opted out of August this year, just too hot for us now.
Used to be able to stick it but the older we get the more uncomfortable it gets.
30 is about our limit thesedays as there's no fun in frying.
Might as well be here in the UK, indoors with the heating on, as to be in Portugal, indoors with the Air Con on.

For us July & August are too hot nowadays. March, June & September this year will be just fine otherwise I will be suffering in a bar somewhere

Not sure about having to be indoors in the UK with the heating on mind, its been pleasantly warm here for the last few weeks although showery and not exactly hot.

Expectations are that the jetstream will move northwards in the next week which will certainly change the weather in the UK and should make it more settled.

"Used to be able to stick it but the older we get the more uncomfortable it gets."

Same for me, 30ºC will do and when it's hotter plus all them tourists it gets too much. I return next week though, hoping it won't be too unreasonable or I will also have to be suffering in a bar.

After a hot Friday and Saturday, it looks like the next week or so will be 32 - 34 during the day, 18 - 22 at night, which should mean I won't be sleeping in a puddle of sweat. Dry wind from the north at first, swinging around to come from the south from Wednesday.

Dicey/Cubsur...have to agree we have "opted out" of August. It is just too hot and get sick of getting woken up at all hours by pesky tourists LOL coming home.
Wife keeps asking if I have booked return ferry yet.....yes dear I will sort it tomorrow.
Hopefully come September things will be cooling down a bit on both fronts.

I didn't really mean this week specifically, although it did hammer it down on Weds.
It was meant to be a more general comparison.

At 6.00pm last night our thermometer (in the shade) said 40 degree’s, the chemist said 41! Superb, that’s why we love the Algarve, what a climate. I'd rather be here in any temperature than in the UK, particularly if you need the heating on.

Today IPMA forecast 38, so don’t be surprised if we are in the low 40’s later! At 11.00am we already have 31, not a cloud to be seen, full sun shining down, the lightest of breeze which is quite intermittent, heaven.

Pointlessly hot. sunny, no wind and 30C is quite enough - anything more just makes living hard work!

The record temp for this day (4th August) was 38 in 1992 and the last 30 years average high is 31.

Update. At 3.00pm we hit 40 degrees, glorious. That would appear to be today’s high as we are now, at 4.40pm, down to a mere 38, still glorious!
