The Tavira senior team hasn't been active for several years, I wonder if they are coming back into the Algarve league next season? The number of active adult football teams here in the Algarve is only about 35. That incudes the likes of Olhanense and Portimonense. There is truly very little outdoor sport played down here, as there is only one rugby team (at Loulè) no hockey and no cricket of course. About a dozen senior football teams have folded over the last 10 years or so.

Algarve FA are making strides.
There appear to be just 12 teams in League Division 1..... Lagos, Moncarapachense, Lagoa, Ferreiras, Silves, Imortal, Quarteirense, Faro e Benfica, Quarteira, 11 Esperancas and Culatrense, plus Messinense have been promoted from Div 2.
No designation yet for Division 2 so no idea yet on the relegated four ...... Guia, Padernense, Odiaxere and Monchiquense.
No dates/ fixtures yet.

I've had no internet where I a staying since I last posted but restored now.

Fixtures for some competitions are due to be drawn tomorrow, Friday 9th at 1900hrs, which means that might be out on the website Friday evening more likely Saturday.

Only 12 teams in the First Division suggests to me that there could be two phases as with Division 2 last year, with the league splitting into two groups of six after the full round of 22 matches. That would though require perhaps 32 matches, which most clubs would consider too many as they do not normally play midweek.

Seems strange to leave Division 2 to another day.

The fixtures for the Algarve League Division One are on the official website but, unless there is something wrong with my eyesight, there are no dates there or elsewhere I can see.

Segunda Liga result from yesterday

Portimonense 1 Cova da Piadade 1 attendance 1182 they say but it looked more than that.

Olhanense are playing this morning for live TV. That should be a spectacle!

I watched the game at Portimonense. The visitors performed cynically throughout, with from their point of view a superb display of gamesmanship and time wasting.

Eight of their players were booked, three of which were for timewasting. One of their subs managed to get sent off from the bench, which we don't see very often. Also sent down the tunnel were two of the coaching staff. The ref added 5 minutes onto the first half, eight which turned into ten in the second half. I nearly missed me bus!

The numbers speak volumes :

Free kicks conceded : Portimonense 12 (only 2 in the 1st half); Cova da Piedade 24 including one penalty which was saved.
Offside : Portimonense nil, Cova da Piedade 4
Shots on target : Portimonense 8, Cova da Piedade 2
Shots off target : Portimonense 8, Cova da Piedade 0
Shots blocked : Portimonense 14, Cova da Piedade 1
Corners : Portimonense 14, Cova da Piedade 3
Yellow cards : Portimonense 2, Cova da Piedade 8
Red Cards :
Portimonense nil, Cova da Piedade 1 plus assorted trainers sent 'sent off'.

The home equalised three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game. The draw keeps them in second place, two points behind leaders Santa Clara.

They play on Wednesday afternoon up at Fafe, a mid table team. Fafe is the other side of Porto.

The club has also announced that it will not be running coaches to midweek away games as so few people are able to get time off work. Considering that apart from Olhanense the away games are at least 3 hours travel, that is not surprising.

The Algarve League Second Division will start on 1st October.  There will be 12 teams including Albufeira Futsal Clube, who will be sharing the stadium with Imortal it seems and some other new and rather exotically named teams.

The Parque Desportivo Municipal JA Teixeira is that little ground near Salir that hasn't been used for years. The Estádio da Bela Vista is the one in Parchal.

Note that there are a couple of 'B' teams participating, also two tems who haveyet to confirm a home ground!

The draw for the Algarve Cup has also been made. First round ties will take place on the 1st November All Saints holiday.

Ties for our local clubs are :

Imortal v Guia
Ferreiras v Sistema FC, who or whatever they may be
11 Esperanças v Albufeira Futsal Clube

To correct my post of 18 September, there will be 17 teams in the Algarve League Second Division. Presumably they will play one set of 32 games.

Heaven knows where they have all come from!

Also I note that almost all matches in the first sets of fixtures will be at 6pm /1800hrs owing mostly to ground sharing arrangements.

Here's the list of teams and their grounds (A indicar - to be notified!)

Albufeira Futsal Clube - Estádio Municipal de Albufeira
Algarve Clube Futebol SAD - Parque Desportivo Municipal JA Teixeira Salir

Carvoeiro United FCCU - Estádio da Bela Vista Parchal
Clube Desportivo Maritimo Olhanense - Estádio Municipal de Olhão
Clube Desportivo Odiaxere - Campo das Eiras
Clube Futebol Esperança de Lagos 'B'- Estádio Municipal de Lagos
