LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES
Segunda Liga Portimonense 2 Mafra 0 att 756 A pretty boring game until the 70th minute when it all kicked off, so to speak. Mafra had come for a draw and managed not a single attempt on goal in that first 70 minutes. For their part, Portimonense had several wild efforts nowhere near. The pitch was hard, uneven and decidely mangy looking in parts, with small areas of sand covering potholes. As I said, nothing of note happened until midway through the second half other than a snapshot from the home side that hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety. Portimonense midfielder Jadson, who had been booked a few minutes earlier, was given a second yellow on 70 minutes for a crude barge on an opponent. Off he went. From the resulting free kick, Mafra had their first attempt on goal, a weak effort that drifted harmlessly wide. Play switched to the other end, Portimonense won a corner which was powerfully headed home from 6 yards by centre back Ivo. Cue hysteria from the PA man, who was in his usual over the top mode. Mafra pushed forward for an equaliser, then the inevitable. In the first of four minutes stoppage time a Mafra attack was broken up in midfield, a quick pass and counter-attack and it was two on one in front of the Mafra goal. A switch pass around the defender and it was Fabricio who finished, very well it has to be said, from the edge of the area. That was a game in hand. The win lifts Portimonense to 8th place with five games played. Match facts - a game with mercifully less of much of the free kick nonsense I saw at Faro the previous week, although not by much! Free kicks conceded : Portimonense 8, Mafra 21. Offside : Portimonense 1, Mafra 1 Shots on target : Portimonense 3, Mafra 0 Shots off target : Portimonense 8, Mafra 2 Shots blocked : Portimonense 2, Mafra 0 Corners : Portimonense 4, Mafra 3 Yellow Cards : Portimonense 3, Mafra 4 Red Cards : Portimonense 1 (2 x yellow) NEXT WEEKEND SEGUNDA LIGA Saturday 12th at 1600hrs / 4pm Olhanense v Aves Saturday 12th at 1700hrs / 5pm Portimonense v Feirense FA CUP First Round - Algarve teams Almancil 0 - 1 Moura Lusitano VRSA 2 - 0 Moncarapachense Juventude Evora 0 - 5 Louletano Lagoa 1 - 1 Amora aet, Lagoa won 4-3 on penalties. NEXT WEEKEND CAMPEONATO NACIONAL SENIORES PHASE 1 GROUP H Sunday 13th 1700hrs Lusitano VRSA v Castrense The others will be away. |

http://www.afalgarve.pt/index.php/comunicacoes/comunicados-oficiais I have to say the Cubsur is very much the man for the job on here, so you can rely on him. Also useful.... http://www.futalgarve.pt.vu/ [see District Football-Seniors]. |

Fixtures are on the Algarve FA website at
http://www.afalgarve.pt/pdf/sorteio11092015.pdf They are labelled 'provisional'. Season starts 26 / 27 September. Imortal start with a home game against Monchique. League is now reduced to only 16 teams. Carvoeiro United and Mexilhoeira have folded, Farense have withdrawn their B team. Ferreiras were relegated from National 3, to which Almancil were promoted. Quarteirense B are back in. With the apparent option now to play on either Saturday or Sunday, it often won't be possible to confirm dates and times more than about 2 weeks in advance at best. |

10th / 11th October fixtures near Albufeira thus.
Segunda Liga - no matches currently scheduled because of the Euro 2016 qualifiers international week. If any are re-arranged to avoid midweek afternoon dates this will be known perhaps in a week or so. Nothing I can see at present. Campeonato Nacional Seniores (3rd Division) Saturday 10th at 3pm Almancil v Barreirense at Almancil Municipal Stadium. That's about a 30 Euro taxi ride each way but is do-able by bus at a pinch. Further advice if required. Algarve League. Normally on a Saturday afternoon but dates and times won't be confirmed until a week or so beforehand, which I will post here. GUIA v CULATRENSE they normally kickoff at 4pm but check. Map for ground, http://www.algarvebus.info/images/guia.jpg Campos de Futebol in top left hand corner. Taxi on a Saturday about 12 Euros each way. There are no buses from or back to Albufeira suitable for a Saturday 4pm kickoff. PADERNE V FARO E BENFICA in the little Paderne ground right in the village. Very good café / bar attached. Taxi will be a bit more than the ride to Guia, but this one is do-able by bus for a fraction of the cost, if it's a 3pm kickoff which it usually is. Bus from Albufeira bus station at 1340, Paderne arrival 1401, the Paderne stop is right outside the ground. This is the bus to Messines (doesn't have a route number) and the bus back on a Saturday is at 1705hrs from the same stop. Same bus time out on a Sunday if they play then but no bus back. Hope that helps. I confirm all dates and times here on the Tuesday before every weekend. |

"Who they are remains a mystery as there is no information on the official website that makes any sense."
The website www.zerozero.pt lists these as the 9 teams in the Second Division. Some returning, some new. Nothing on the Algarve FA website. Sambrasense (São Bras de Alportel) Aljezurense Messinense (Messines) Santaluziense (Santa Luzia near Tavira) MarÃtimo Olhanense Mexilhoeira Grande FC 4 ao Cubo (apparently based in olhão) Carvoeiro United (played at Estombar last season) Ferreiras B They start on 3rd October with the Algarve Cup, League games begin the following week. |
