Not as good as I would have liked. I couldn't be bothered to mess with the exposures.

Next home game January 23rd against the mighty Moncarapachense.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Segunda Liga

Olhanense 0 - 1 Famalicão att 302
Oliveirense 3 - 1 Farense att 236 (yes, for a game in the second league of a respectable footballing country.)
Viseu 0 - 1 Portimonense att 521

It looks like there was an inspried late substitution by Portimonense! A chap by the name of André (number 77!) was introduced in the 85th minute and scored the only goal two minutes later.

At Olhão, the visiting team may have set some kind of record by having NINE players booked. For their part Olhanense clocked up three.

As a result of those games, Portimonense are now in 6th place and four points off promotion. Olhanense slip to 11th. Farense are sliding towards the relegation zone, they are now 17th and only three points above the safety line.

NEXT WEEK

Portimonense have a home date on Tuesday with what will essentially be Sporting's B team in a League Cup match. Ko will be 1945hrs.

Segunda Liga next weekend - note that because of Sunday's Presidential elections matches are being played on Saturday, not Sunday.

Portimonense v CD Aves ko 1500hrs
Farense v Sporting B ko 1500hrs

Olhanense will be away at Penafiel.

Campeonatio Nacional Seniores First Phase Group H

Lusitano VRSA    0-1    Barreirense
Almancilense    1-0    Moura
Castrense    0-0    Pinhalnovense
Louletano        2-0    At. Reguengos
Cova da Piedade    2-0    Juventude Évora

One match remains in the first phase.

Lusitano VRSA travel to second placed Moura next Saturday (again these games are on Saturday because of the elections) knowing that only a win will give them any chance at all of qualifying for the second phase promotion playoffs. Then other results will decide the issue. Louletano and Almancilense will be playing in the 'avoid relegation' group no matter what; both will be away in that final round of matches.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Silves        7-2    Monchiquense
Moncarapachense    2-0    11 Esperanças
GD Lagoa    4-2    Imortal Albufeira
Quarteira     SC    1-0    Ferreiras
Padernense    0-3    Quarteirense
Faro e Benfica    1-2    Armacenenses
Culatrense    2-0    Odiáxere
Guia        2-1    Esp. Lagos

The first defeat of the season for Ferreiras means that Lagoa go ahead of them at the top of the table by two points and with a game in hand. Top four :

Lagoa pl 12 pts 32
Ferreiras pl 13 pts 30
Armancenses pl 13 pts 29
Quarteirense pl 13 pts 28

Imortal are 9th, Guia 13th and Paderne 14th.

Next Saturday at 1500hrs / 3pm except as shown. As you can see, the top two will meet at Ferreiras in an important game.

Culatrense    -    Monchiquense    at Penha, Faro ko 1930hrs
11 Esperanças    -    Silves     at Penha, Faro ko 1715hrs
Imortal DC    -    Moncarapachense    on the top 3G pitch ko 1500
Ferreiras        -    GD Lagoa    ko 1600hrs
     Quarteirense    -    Quarteira
     Esp. Lagos    -    Padernense
     Armacenenses    -    Guia
     Odiáxere        -    Faro e Benfica

ALGARVE LEAGUE SECOND DIVISION

Ferreiras B    0-3    Sambrasense
Carvoeiro United    0-0    Marítimo Olhanense
Mexilhoeira Grande FC    1-2    Messinense
4 ao Cubo    1-2    Santaluziense

Messinense are now nine points clear of Santaluziense ad Sambrasense.

Next Saturday at 1500hrs / 3pm

Aljezurense    -    Carvoeiro United
Santaluziense    -    Mexilhoeira Grande FC
Sambrasense    -    4 ao Cubo
Marítimo Olhanense    -    Ferreiras B

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

National League Second Tier Group D

Guia    2-2    Paio Pires FC

Guia are now 9th of 12 teams. They have no game next week.

Worthy of note elsewhere, the ladies of Olímpico Montijo scored their first goal of the season (in a 5-1 defeat) having conceded 86 goals in their first ten games while failing to find the net themselves. There's always hope I guess.

Result from last night. The biggest crowd at Portimão for many years, 4673, saw the home  side beat Sporting Lisbon (effectively their B team) 2-0.

This was the second game in the third phase of this elongated competition.

With two wins from two games played, Portimonense are guaranteed a quarter-final spot. They have one game left to play, a fun trip to Paços de Ferreira next week.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Segunda Liga

Portimonense 0 -  1 CD Aves att 963
Penafiel 1 - 1 Olhanense att 523
Farense 3 - 0 Sporting B att 942

Decent crowds for this level, with matches played on a Saturday afternoon for a change - maybe a lesson there.

Defeat for Portimonense leaves them in 6th place and four points off the promotion spots. Olhanense are 11th and the useful win for Farense lifts them to 15th and four points clear of the relegation zone. But it is a tightly packed table down there at the bottom end.

All three Algarve teams will be away next weekend, with Portimonense getting a short straw, having to start at 1115am on Sunday morning up at Mafra.

Portimonense have a more important game before that. On Tuesday evening, they travel to Superliga side Paços de Ferreira in their final game of the third phase of the League Cup. I was mistaken in my previous report - there is no quarter final stage, the four group winners go into the semi-finals. Portimonense have two wins under their belt. One point will guarantee them a semi final place. However defeat could see them overtaken by Sporting on goal difference. The two games are being played simultaneously.

Campeonato Nacional Seniores First Phase Group H - final round of matches

Moura    1-0    Lusitano VRSA
Pinhalnovense    3-0    Almancilense
At. Reguengos    2-0    Castrense
Juventude Évora    0-3    Louletano
Barreirense    0-2    Cova da Piedade

All three Algarve teams will be in the 'avoiding relegation' group in the second phase. Louletano did what they needed to do by winning at Évora, but Lusitano VRSA could not pull off a win at Moura to help them. So Moura and Cova da Piedade go through into the promotion group.

There are no games next weekend in this league while they sort themselves out for the second phase.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Imortal Albufeira    0-1    Moncarapachense
Quarteirense    2-2    Quarteira
Esp. Lagos    6-1    Padernense
Armacenenses    3-0    Guia
Odiáxere    1-1    Faro e Benfica
Ferreiras    0-1    GD Lagoa
11 Esperanças    3-0    Silves
Culatrense    1-1    Monchiquense

Defeat for Imortal leaves them in 9th place. Lagoa are now three points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand after that win at Ferreiras. Armacanenses go above Ferreiras into second place.

Guia are 13th and Paderne, after another heavy defeat, are 15th.

UPDATE - REVISED FIXTURES AS BELOW

These are

11 Esperanças v Lagoa ko 1500hrs at Penha
Culatrense v Armacanenses ko 1715hrs at Penha
Padernense v Odiaxere ko 1500hrs
Silves v Ferreiras ko 1500hrs

Normal service resumes on 6th February and note there is a full programme on 'Carnaval Tuesday' 9th February.

Algarve League Second Division

Aljezurense    3-0    Carvoeiro United
Santaluziense    2-1    Mexilhoeira Grande FC
Sambrasense    3-0    4 ao Cubo
Marítimo Olhanense    1-0    Ferreiras B

Messinense, who were without a game, are still top of the league six points clear of Santaluziense and with a game in hand.

Next Saturday at 1500hrs / 3pm

Marítimo Olhanense    -    Sambrasense
Ferreiras B    -    Aljezurense
Carvoeiro United    -    Messinense    at Parchal
Mexilhoeira Grande FC    -    4 ao Cubo

Women's Football

No game for Guia last weekend. Next Sunday they will be at home to Belenenses, ko 1500hrs / 3pm

According to Portugal news a Chinese company is lined up to sponsor the Segunda Liga next season with the proviso that at least 3 of the assistant managers are Chinese as well as including at least 10 chinese players in the starting line ups. This could have an impact on devaluing the league if inferior players/coaches are used.

How ridiculous (and it must be against some kind of racial discrimination law). Actually, the kind of thing the clowns in charge at Charlton might do at the moment. Let's hope they don't get any ideas...

I thought I had gone into a time warp and it was April 1st.

BTW Algarve League fixtures for next Saturday revised as above. No game for Imortal.

Last night was a good one for Portimonense, who are through to the League Cup semi-finals after beating Paços de Ferreira 3-2 away, in front of 419 diehard fans.

They had to come back from being 2-0 down before half time. It's the first time a team from the second division has reached the semi-finals of the League Cup, even better bearing in mind that this competition is now essentially for U23 players.

According to the sports paper O Jogo, Portimonense will meet the winners of Group A, which is wide open between three teams namely Maritimo, Famalicão and Feirense. Maritimo are favourites, needing only a point from tonight's game with Famalicão.

In the other semi-final Benfica will play either Braga or Rio Ave. Those two meet tonight with Braga also needing a point, a win for Rio Ave would see them into the semi final.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Segunda Liga

Mafra 0 - 0 Portimonense att  539
Atlético 1 - 0 Olhanense att 310
Feirense 1 - 0 Farense att 842

Portimonense remain in 6th place and four points off the promotion spots. Three points ahead of them are Feirense, who beat Farense to knock them down to 15th. Olhanense also lost and are in 14th. Farense are only three points outside the relegation places, Olhanense two points better off, in a very congested table in which only five points separate 10th and 21st places.

All three Algarve teams will be home next weekend thus.

Farense v Mafra Sunday 7th at 1500hrs
Portimonense v Sporting SATURDAY 6th Feb11.15am - the short straw as it will be on live TV
Olhanense v Vítoria Guimarães B Sunday 7th 1500hrs

Campeonato Nacional Seniores

They have two weeks off between 1st and 2nd phases. So far as I know this resumes on 14th February.

Algarve League Division One

Only four games last weekend

Silves 0 - 0 Ferreiras
Paderne 1 - 1 Odíaxere
11 Esperanças 1 - 4 Lagoa
Culatrense 0 - 2 Armacanenses

Lagoa are now two points clear of Armancanenses at the top, both having played 14 games. Ferreiras, without a win now in three games, slip to third and are four points behind and have played a game more. Imortal are 10th, Guia 13th and Paderne 14th.

Next Saturday at 3pm / 1500hrs confirmed and note one change of venue

Monchiquense    -    11 Esperanças
Silves    -    Imortal Albufeira
Moncarapachense    -    Ferreiras
GD Lagoa    -    Quarteirense    at ESTOMBAR
Quarteira    -    Esp. Lagos
Padernense    -    Armacenenses
Guia    -    Odiáxere    ko 1600hrs
Faro e Benfica    -    Culatrense at Horta da Areia in Faro

There will also be several games on Tuesday 9th, Carnaval Day, details below.

Guia v Faro e Benfica 1600hrs
Lagoa v Lagos 1500hrs

Monchique v Imortal Albufeira 1500hrs
11 Esperanças v Culatrense 1500hrs at Penha

Algarve League Division Two

Marítimo Olhanense    1-4    Sambrasense
Ferreiras B    1-1    Aljezurense
Carvoeiro United    4-5    Messinense
Mexilhoeira Grande FC    4-2    4 ao Cubo

Looks like Carvoeiro put up a good fight against leaders Messinense, but the latter are now six points clear of Sambrasense with a game in hand.

Next Saturday at 3pm / 1500hrs

Aljezurense    -    Marítimo Olhanense
Messinense    -    Ferreiras B
Santaluziense    -    Carvoeiro United
Sambrasense    -    Mexilhoeira Grande FC

Women's Football - National League Second tier 1st phase group D

A good win for Guia that takes them up into 7th place of twelve teams. They will be away at Sintra next weekend.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Segunda Liga

Farense 0 - 0 Mafra att 837
Portimonense 2 - 0 Sporting B att 750
Olhanense 3 - 1 Vitoria SC B att 389

Portimonense played an hour of the game with ten men following a sending off. Two second half goals gave them a good win. My man on the spot (Lofters) reports that Sporting failed to create a single decent chance.

Portimonense are fifth and effectively four points off a promotion place as top side FC Porto B cannot be promoted.

Olhanense are up to 10th after a good win, no doubt helped by the sending off of the visiting goalkeeper after 28 minutes.

Farense are 15th after that draw. It's very tight at the bottom, with only 8 points separating 9th and 21st places.

NEXT WEEKEND

Saturday 13th ko 1500hrs / 3pm

Farense v Covilhã

The other two will be away

MIDWEEK Wednesday 17th February

Portimonense v Gil Vicente ko 1500hrs / 3pm
Olhanense v Varzim ko 1500hrs / 3pm

CAMPEONATO NACIONAL SENIORES SECOND PHASE GROUP H

This second phase is to avoid relegation into the regional leagues. None of the Algarve teams are in contention for promotion.

First round of matches Sunday 14th, ko 1500hrs / 3pm - eight teams involved thus 14 more games.

Almancilense    -    Juventude Évora
Lusitano VRSA    -    Barreirense
Louletano    -    Pinhalnovense
Castrense    -    At. Reguengos

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Monchiquense    0-3    11 Esperanças
Silves    1-2    Imortal Albufeira
Moncarapachense    0-0    Ferreiras
GD Lagoa    1-1    Quarteirense
Quarteira    2-3    Esp. Lagos
Padernense    0-5    Armacenenses
Faro e Benfica    0-1    Culatrense
Guia    2-2    Odiáxere

Full table : http://www.zerozero.pt/edition.php?jornada_in=15&id_edicao=89754&fase=84688

Imortal remain in 10th place, Ferreiras are third but 8 points off the pace behind Lagoa and Armacanenses.

Guia are 13th, Paderne 15th and both now with a fight on to avoid relegation.

There are some games next Tuesday, 14th February, Carnaval unofficial holiday!

Guia v Faro e Benfica 1600hrs
Lagoa v Lagos 1500hrs
Moncarapachense v Quarteirense 1500hrs at their new ground in Moncarapacho
Monchique v Imortal Albufeira 1500hrs
11 Esperanças v Culatrense 1500hrs at Penha

Next Saturday, ko 1500hrs except at Ferreiras

Culatrense    -    Guia
Faro e Benfica    -    Padernense
Odiáxere    -    Quarteira
Armacenenses    -    GD Lagoa
Esp. Lagos    -    Moncarapachense
Quarteirense    -    Silves
Ferreiras    -    Monchiquense    ko 1600hrs
Imortal Albufeira    -    11 Esperanças

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

Aljezurense    1-3    Marítimo Olhanense
Messinense    3-2    Ferreiras B
Santaluziense    1-1    Carvoeiro United
Sambrasense    4-1    Mexilhoeira Grande

Teams in this small league have only two or three games remaining. Messinense are six points ahead at the top and are noiw certain of promotion.

Sambrasense, in second place, need to win both their remaining to games to be certain of joining them.

Next Saturday there are no games in this Division.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE SECOND TIER GROUP D

Sintrense 0 - 1 Guia

Guia are now up to 6th. They will be away again next Sunday. Also, in that league, bottom side Olimpico Montijo scored only their second goal in 13 league games, they still lost 3-1. That's only the second time they have conceded fewer than five goals in a game during a season which has also featured five double digit defeats. All credit to them for carrying on!

Results from yesterday afternoon.

Quarteira        0-1    Armacenenses
GD Lagoa        5-0    Esp. Lagos
Moncarapachense    0-2    Quarteirense
Monchiquense    0-0    Imortal Albufeira
11 Esperanças    0-1    Culatrense
Guia        1-0    Faro e Benfica

A bit disappointing for Imortal after Saturday's win, but I assume some of the players would have to be working since Carnaval is not an official holiday! No report as there is no way to get to and back from Monchique on a non-schoolday. Still, one point is better than none.

Lagoa are top on 42 points, Armacanenses second with 41, then a long gap to Quarteirense on 33 and Ferreiras on 32. Imortal are 10th, Guia are 12th and Paderne 15th of 16 teams.

Result from Wednesday evening

League Cup Semi Final (it's only one leg)

Marítimo 3 Portimonense 1 att 5237

Portimonense went ahead on four minutes but were gradually pegged back. It was 2-1 at half time, the decisive goal came in the fourth minute of stoppage time at the end of the game.  Disappointing, but still a good run by the Algarve side, who were the first team from the Segunda Liga to reach this stage of the competition.

One of the unused Marítimo subs rejoices in the name of Lynneeker Nakamuta Paes de Albuquerque. His parents must have been 'aving a larf.
