Thanks for all your advice.
We took our puppy to Tomato beach today - he didn't like the sand or sea!!!
Perhaps try again another time

It's just West of Quarteria, very fashionable, it's so named as there used to be a tomato growing plant/farm there.
There was a thread on here about it before, including pictures I think.

Hi all
Its the beach between Falesia and Vilamoura - approached by dirt /gravel road - only accessible from Vilamoura by footbridge generally fairly empty apart from August when it is swarming with mainly Portuguese. Nice sandy beach with beach bar.
We used to go there regularly when we had apartment at Vale Carro

It's really just a continuation of Falesia Beach.
You can walk from Olhos D'Agua along Falesia & eventually you come to Praia dos Tomates.
It's about an hours walk.
You can also get there on the bus from Albufeira - catch the bus to Rocha Baixinha ( http://www.algarvebus.info/023.htm ) & get off where it terminates at the Adriana Beach Club Resort.
Walk round the confines of that resort towards the sea & you'll come to a car park on the cliff top. There is staircase of 100 almost vertical wooden steps down onto the beach.
The cliffs there are very high & very red.
We often catch the bus to there & then walk back to Acoteias along the beach.
I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

The first time we came to Portugal we used that beach but didn't realise it was called that.
