We certainly were. France was the big threat in those times.

Here's my poor rendition of that 17th century plan set over the modern map. It wasn't easy, as the coastline has changed quite a bit and the scale is unknown but I hope this gives a rough idea of how the town has developed. The main road in would have been the present Rua 1 Dezembro, which comes from Guia through Páteo and down the hill to what was the main gate at the present Sol e Mar hotel. The road from Ferreiras alongside the river and as the Rua 5 de outubro  must have been a later addition. Off to the museum next week and see what else I can find out.

It's more or less on the site of the old castle. Perhaps the car hire company have gracefully paid your toll. How nice of them if they have!

The fine for not paying after the 48 hours + 5 days is €75 for the first week, €125 after the second week, plus admin costs.

Cold again this morning, 6C/42F at the moment and a rather windy, which makes it feel a bit colder. Last night's minimum was 3C at the airport, 1C in Sagres. The sun is out and the sky is blue, so it will warm up today to 10 or 11C, 50 - 52F. It stays dry.

Tonight it will be cold again, Sunday like today, then warming up a bit on Monday and Tuesday but later next week it will cold again they think but not as cold as today.

(There are some temperature records posted on the PT Meteo website. The lowest ever recorded at Faro was -1.4C in 1979.)

Hi,
 
I have been over for two short trips in the last five weeks, I have hired a car on both occasions and used the A22.
 
I have yet to be charged anything on my Credit Card for the accrued tolls, or even been informed by the two different hire companies, that there is in fact a toll to pay.

Maybe best sending a few of them an email and ask as their websites may not be up to date. Hi all
 
Does anyone know if transfer companies are "boycotting" the A22 rather than pay toll charges or do you think the prices will increase to accommodate toll charges?
 
I'm due over in March and have checked out prices and they're pretty low.
